Pattern Fasteners manufactures custom Nyloc nuts for demanding industrial and engineering applications.
Also known as nylon insert lock nuts, Nyloc nuts incorporate a nylon collar that grips the mating thread. This creates additional resistance to rotation and helps prevent the nut from loosening when exposed to vibration or movement.
While standard Nyloc nuts are readily available, many assemblies require non-standard dimensions, unusual thread forms, specialist materials or application-specific modifications. We manufacture these components to customer drawings, existing samples and bespoke specifications.
As the mating thread enters the nylon insert, it forms a close interference fit within the polymer.
The resulting friction helps the nut resist unintentional rotation while allowing it to be installed using conventional tools. This makes Nyloc nuts suitable for assemblies exposed to vibration, repeated movement and changing loads.
The required nut design, insert material and performance specification should always be selected according to the operating environment and application.
We manufacture Nyloc nuts for applications where standard off-the-shelf products are unsuitable.
Options may include:
Standard and non-standard metric threads
Imperial thread forms
Fine-pitch threads
UNC and UNF threads
BA and other specialist thread forms
Bespoke widths across flats
Custom nut heights and profiles
Modified nylon inserts
Tight dimensional tolerances
Special mechanical properties
Small batches and repeat production quantities
Our team can work from your technical drawing, existing component or individual specification.
Custom Nyloc nuts can be produced in a range of materials selected to meet the mechanical, environmental and corrosion-resistance requirements of the application.
Material options may include:
Carbon steel
Alloy steel
A2 and A4 stainless steel
Specialist stainless steel grades
Brass
Non-ferrous materials
High-performance alloys
A variety of protective and decorative finishes can also be specified, including:
Bright zinc plating
Chemical black
Phosphate coatings
Passivation
Customer-specified coatings and treatments
Material grades, finishes and insert requirements can be incorporated into the complete manufacturing specification.
The locking performance of a Nyloc nut depends on several factors, including the thread dimensions, insert design, material properties and operating conditions.
Careful control throughout manufacture helps ensure consistent thread engagement and dependable resistance to loosening.
Custom Nyloc nuts may be suitable for assemblies exposed to:
Vibration
Dynamic loading
Repeated movement
Thermal cycling
Regular maintenance
Controlled assembly and disassembly
Where temperature, chemical exposure or repeated reuse is a concern, our team can review the application and discuss appropriate options.
Special and non-standard Nyloc nuts are used throughout a wide range of industries, including:
Automotive and motorsport
Aerospace and defence
Energy
Oil and gas
Construction
Heavy engineering
Machinery manufacturing
Electronics
Precision assemblies
Each component can be manufactured around the dimensional, mechanical and environmental requirements of its intended application.
