Some parts need more than a straightforward turn between centres; this stepped, hexagon-headed component is a great example of what's possible when turning and milling come together in one setup. Produced from bar stock on our CNC turn-mill centre, the part combines multiple turned diameters, a precision thread, and a milled hex head, all held to the same datum throughout.
The bar is fed through the main spindle and turned down through a series of stepped diameters, reducing progressively to a small pointed tip. The threaded section is then cut with precise control over pitch and form, before live rotary tooling indexes in to mill the hexagon head directly from the round bar, no separate milling operation, no re-fixturing, no risk of losing concentricity between features. Once complete, the part is parted off and, where needed, the reverse face is finished via sub-spindle pick-up before final separation.
Additionally, this part has had the part number engraved onto the head, allowing for improved traceability. At pattern fasteners we offer both machine and laser engraving.
