Pattern Fasteners manufactures aluminium fasteners and precision-engineered fixings for applications where low weight, corrosion resistance and ease of machining are important.
From aluminium screws, bolts and studs to specialist threaded components and completely bespoke fasteners, we can manufacture parts to customer drawings, samples, recognised standards or individual specifications.
Our UK manufacturing capabilities allow us to produce both straightforward and complex aluminium fasteners, including non-standard dimensions, special head forms, threads, shoulders, grooves and other machined features.
Aluminium offers a useful combination of low weight and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for applications where reducing component weight is particularly important.
Depending on the aluminium alloy and application, benefits can include:
Significantly lower weight than many steel fasteners
Good resistance to atmospheric corrosion
Good machinability
Non-magnetic properties
Good thermal and electrical conductivity
Suitable for anodising and other surface treatments
A clean appearance for visible components
Aluminium does not offer the same strength characteristics as high-tensile steel or some stainless steels, so the correct alloy and fastener design should always be selected according to the mechanical requirements of the application.
Where a standard aluminium fixing is unavailable or unsuitable, we can manufacture special and non-standard aluminium fasteners to meet your requirements.
Components can include:
Aluminium screws
Socket cap screws
Set screws and grub screws
Aluminium bolts
Threaded studs
Pins
Spacers and bushes
Special threaded components
Modified standard fasteners
Bespoke fasteners manufactured to drawing
Dimensions, thread forms, head styles, drive types and other features can be produced according to the component specification.
Different aluminium alloys offer different combinations of strength, machinability, corrosion resistance and finishing characteristics.
Pattern Fasteners works with a wide range of aluminium grades, including alloys from the 2000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 series, subject to material availability and the requirements of the component.
Grades used for machined fasteners and components can include 2011, 2014, 6082 and 7075, among others.
The appropriate grade will depend on factors such as required strength, operating environment, corrosion resistance, machining requirements and whether the finished component requires a surface treatment.
If a particular aluminium grade is specified on your drawing, our team can review the requirement as part of the quotation process.
Many aluminium fastener requirements arise because an off-the-shelf component does not provide the required dimensions, thread, head configuration or performance.
We can manufacture directly from your engineering drawing, existing sample or dimensional specification.
This allows features such as non-standard thread lengths, unusual diameters, reduced or enlarged heads, shoulders, undercuts, grooves, drilled holes and special drive forms to be incorporated into the component.
For existing designs, we can also review whether a standard fastener can be modified rather than manufacturing the entire component from scratch.
Aluminium fasteners can be supplied with a suitable surface finish where required.
Anodising is commonly specified for aluminium components to improve surface corrosion and wear resistance or provide a particular appearance. The appropriate treatment will depend on the aluminium grade, application and required specification.
Any finishing requirement should be identified on your drawing or enquiry so that it can be considered alongside the material and manufacturing process.
Pattern Fasteners has been manufacturing special fasteners and precision-engineered components in the West Midlands since 1981.
We specialise in helping customers source components that are non-standard, difficult to obtain or need to be manufactured specifically for an application.
Whether you require a small quantity of specialist aluminium screws or an ongoing production requirement for a bespoke aluminium fastener, send us your drawing, sample or specification and our team can review the most appropriate manufacturing route.
Yes. Aluminium fasteners can be manufactured to customer drawings, samples or individual specifications, including non-standard diameters, lengths, threads, head styles and other machined features.
We can manufacture a wide variety of aluminium screws, bolts, studs, pins, spacers, bushes and specialist threaded components. The exact manufacturing method will depend on the component design, dimensions, material grade and quantity required.
A number of aluminium alloys can be used depending on the required mechanical and environmental properties. These include alloys from the 2000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 series. Our team can review a specified grade or discuss suitable material options for your component.
Generally, aluminium fasteners do not provide the same tensile strength as comparable high-tensile steel fasteners. Their principal advantages include their low weight and corrosion resistance. Material grade and fastener dimensions therefore need to be selected according to the loads and conditions of the application.
Yes. Aluminium components can be anodised where a suitable grade and component specification are used. Anodising can provide additional surface protection, wear resistance and decorative options.
Yes. Send us your engineering drawing and we can review the dimensions, tolerances, threads, aluminium grade, quantity and any finishing requirements before providing a quotation.
Send us your drawing, sample or specification and our experienced team can help determine the most appropriate aluminium grade and manufacturing process for your component.
From one-off specialist requirements to repeat production quantities, Pattern Fasteners manufactures aluminium fasteners to suit demanding engineering applications.
